![]() TOUCHÉ is incredibly sensitive to light taps and scratches. Even a pitch-mod joystick tends to be stiffer and not as easy to articulate with the palm of your hand and tips of your fingers. The fun thing would be that if this works, you could have two of these "DIY Touchés" for example and still have 8 pads and 16 encoders left for other uses. Moving between the shifting feels a lot more fluid and in unison than separate pitch/mod wheels. I'm sure our Mozaic experts would be able to write such a converter □□ Like the Alesis Air FX, it offers three axes of control, meaning that even a novice synth player can use it to map parameters and greatly increase their expression. ![]() If the weight of the square block is chosen to match, this could be a rather expressive and sensitive hack. One of the most recent controllers on this list, the E Touch uses MIDI, CV and USB control for a tactile and intuitive form of expression housed in a beautifully-made enclosure. It also offers the same software-side capabilities, meaning that with Touch SE, you will get the same software bundle and identical factory sound library. This enables the user to manipulate up to eight of Massive X’s macros at once with a single hand, making rhythmic manipulation of the sounds more varied and physically intuitive. It has the exact same form factor and features the exact same patented playing mechanism. Touché and Touché SE owners can also open them using Expressive E’s Lié plugin host software. ![]() I have tried that with an old square-shaped copper CPU cooler and the pressure sensitivity of the four pads seems to be in a rather workable range! Touch SE is a more affordable ‘USB-only’ version of the existing Touch controller. Why not put a massive square of heavy wood or steel on four pads, shape the bottom so it fits the pads and won't slip away and then calculate the respective CC messages from reading the aftertouch messages from the four different pads. Now the Touché basically sends absolute MIDI CC data from pressure four different directions: Upper, lower, left and right. Make sure that Touch (SE) sits on a stable, horizontal surface and that you don't put pressure on its Touch-Plate. Connect it directly, and don't use a USB hub in between, at least not while performing the firmware update. There are several ideas on how to build such a mechanism but while discussing MIDI control protocols for Drambo and Groove Rider, I remembered that the Arturia Beatstep sends polyphonic aftertouch messages. Connect your Touch (SE) to your computer, using the branded cable coming with the unit. Inspired by the wonderful work of and at the same time shocked by the retail price of an Expressive E Touché, I wondered for a while how a cheaper alternative could look like.
